George Soros Financial Speculator And Political Activist

Born on August 12, 1930 at Budapest in Hungary, George Soros is currently the chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute. George is also a former Director of Council of Foreign Relations. Though born in Hungary George has been staying in the US for over years. At age 77 George Soros is a well-known financial speculator, as well as stock investor and a renowned philanthropist. George is also a notable figure in politics.

Teodore Schwartz, father of George Soros was a Hungarian Jew who had served in jail in Russia during and after The World War I. Teodore however managed to escape from Russia and flew to Hungary to get reunited with his family in Budapest. Georges family had to change its surname from Schwartz to Soros due to constant Fascist threat to Jews.

George Soros was only 13 years old when the Nazi Germany took control over Hungary and his father protected him posing him as his godson. In 1946 George escaped Soviet Union when he took part in an Esperanto youth congress. He immigrated to England in 1947 and in 1952 he obtained his bachelors degree in Economics from London School of Economics.

At the initial stage George Soros had to struggle. He funded his own tuition fees by working part time as a railway porter and a waiter at a restaurant. He also worked in a factory to earn his living and to fund himself. He even got a job in a merchant bank in London. He was a student of a great philosopher Karl Popper.

George Soros moved to the United States in 1956 and worked with F.M. Mayer as an arbitrage trader till 1959. He also worked with Wertheim and Company from 1959 to 1963 as an analyst. Based upon the idea of his teacher Popper, George Soros had a found a new philosophy of reflexivity but he did not want to make money from this idea rather he wanted to know how to deal with investments.

George Soros served as the Vice President of Arnhold and S. Bleichroeder from 1963 to 1973. He claimed himself to be a better investor than a philosopher. In 1973 he set up his own private investment company with intent to earn enough money on Wall Street to support himself as an author and philosopher. In five years his net worth reached to $11 billion.

George Soros has actively taken the role of a philanthropist since 1970. He provided funds to the students from underdeveloped countries. He has a major role in promoting non-violent efforts to strengthen democracy in many countries. George Soros
