Christian Poems Words Teaching Of Jesus Christ And Bible

Christian poems reflect the deep influence of Christs teachings, the Bible or more generally the Christian way of life. Many of these poems are inspirational and encourage the believers to live according to Christian virtues. Some of the topics covered in such poems are faith or its crisis, temptations and the need to overcome them as well as personal inspirational moments.

The words and teachings of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Gospels of the New Testament form the basis for many Christian poems. The ideals of service, humility and virtuous life as taught by Christ find expression in one of the most famous poems of all times, When I Consider How My Light is Spent by John Milton. Other religious poems express the wonder of Divine Grace and how Christ sacrificed His own life that mankind may be offered the chance of Salvation.

Some of the most beautiful Christian poems are based on the theme of Nativity. Poems like It Came upon a Midnight Clear by Edmund Hamilton Sears and Nativity by John Donne celebrate the wonder of the birth of Jesus who brought with him the message of hope and Salvation. Many of these Nativity poems were set to music and gained worldwide popularity as Christmas carols.

Some of the most deeply moving Christian poems are those which express the conflict in the mind and soul of the subject. The poet is often torn between following his duty as a Christian and giving way to temptation, despair or inaction. Examples of these poems are A Hymn to Adversity by Thomas Gray and A Prayer in the Time of War by Alfred Noyes. Most of these poems end by the believer regaining his faith and striving to live and work according to Christian values.

Poems on death and the passage of something or someone precious constitute another group of Christian poems. Bereavement by P.B.Shelley and The Dying Christian To His Soul by Alexander Pope are instances of such poems. The grief of losing earthly life or joys is offset by the believers faith in the love of the Heavenly Father. Such poems also inspire the listener or reader to stop mourning for the passing of transient pleasures and instead be grateful for whatever he or she already has.

A few Christian poems are composed on the journey of the soul to the land of Eternal hope and joys. The ultimate destination of the human being is variously imagined as Jerusalem or the City of God but ultimately the place stands for the land of the righteous where all injustice and sorrows disappear and only the Eternal love of the Heavenly Father shines bright. Some of these poems are Jerusalem by William Blake and The Seekers by John Masefield. Christian poetry
