
Ecommerce or E-commerce, which is the commonly known version of electronic commerce, uses electronic systems such as internet or other computer networks for buying and selling products or services. Though with the spread of the internet, the amount of trade done through this electronic systems has grown extraordinarily rapidly, there are different opinions about the future of the ecommerce, some optimistic and some pessimistic.
Other than the physical product, a small percentage of electronic commerce conducted for the virtual products, for example, for accessing a premium content of a website, opens a new aspect of future of ecommerce.
Some analysts look the future of ecommerce is not as bright as it appears to be now. Despite the exponential growth of online selling, according to their opinion ecommerce is heading towards a fall. But some others have a completely opposite view regarding future of ecommerce. According to a study from Center For Research In Electronic Commerce, ecommerce will be considered as the industrial revolution in 21st century, as the internet economy is growing rapidly and new as well as already established companies are reaping profits online. According to this study the ecommerce still has a vast untapped potential.
In September, Center For Research In Electronic Commerce completed a study specially designated to the future of ecommerce. The main focus of this study was the positive impact of the internet on the business, both small and big. It revealed them to be not only selling the goods online, but to take the most of the business process onto internet, thus increasing profits by streamlining them.
This study, exploring the future of ecommerce, tells that the large companies saw an improvement of 13 to 21 percent after implementing new internet technologies. For multibillionaire companies, implementing online business has resulted in huge saving which can otherwise be used to the bottom line as well as the whole economy. Even larger impact is seen by the smaller companies, which do not have infrastructure difficulties as the large companies have. In the cases of small company, with the inclusion of internet in its model of business, they achieved a greater market share and visibility and they are now able to reach new markets more effectively than previously. As opposed to the large companies 13-21 percent improvement after inclusion of internet in their business model, the small companies enjoy a 40-50 percent average improvement in financial performance.
The shift to online shopping cart from the storefront though happening gradually, of course indicate that it is happening and in the near future expected to continue, brightening the future of ecommerce.
