Blind Faith English Blues Rock Band

Blind Faith is the album of the 1969 English blues rock band consisting of Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech. It was one of the first rock supergroups composed of members who had already made their mark in their respective genres and styles of music.

The band released only one album in August, 1969, before breaking up in October to go their separate ways. The original version of Blind Faith consisted of six songs ~ the soulful Had To Cry Today by Steve Winwood, the popular hit Well, All Right that featured among others singer Buddy Holly, Eric Claptons Presence Of The Lord, Ginger Bakers cheery single Do What You Like, Cant Find My Way Home and Sea Of Joy. The deluxe edition of the same album contained some jam sessions and two new, previously unreleased songs.

The band which was formed in 1968 had sold millions of copies after their first official release. The Blind Faith cover was designed by Claptons friend, photographer Bob Seidemann who is known for his photographs of singer Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. Seidemann originally selected a 14-year-old on the London underground as his model but finally photographed his sister who was said to have been only 11 years old at that time even as bizarre rumors circulated over her identity. The cover of the album was nameless like The Rolling Stones 1964 debut, Traffics self titled 1968 album and The Beatles 1965 Rubber Soul.

Blind Faith gave their first live performance at Londons Hyde Park in June, 1969. Their recording sessions were followed by a short tour of Scandinavia before a more eventful trip to the United States where their debut at Madison Square Garden was interrupted by a riot in which Baker was accidentally struck on the head by a police club and Winwoods piano was wrecked.

Blind Faith finished its tour in Hawaii in August and returned to England where the crowds seemed to display a preference for their older Cream and Traffic numbers which they were forced to play owing to their small Blind Faith repertoire. Clapton also gravitated towards the folk-blues sound of opening act Delaney & Bonnie, leaving Winwood to take up a leading role in the band.

In July, 2007, Winwood and Clapton reunited to perform at a Crossroads 2 concert in Chicago which led to subsequent plans for performances at Madison Square Garden scheduled in February, 2008, which may or may not be joined by the only other Blind Faith member alive, Ginger Baker. Grech passed away in 1990 following a brain haemorrhage after a successful career as member of several musical groups in England. Blind Faith
