Margaret Dickinson Romantic Novelist Of Famous Fleethaven Trilogy


Margaret Dickinson, born in Gainsborough, is an author of romantic fiction novels set in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. She has been writing since the age of fourteen and had always dreamt to be in print. She got her first novel published at the age of twenty–six when in 1968. She wrote seven other novels during 1969 to 1984.

Margaret Dickinson had spent most of her life in the country side of East Coast in Nottinghamshire. After not being able to write for seven years due to family commitments, she was persuaded by her husband to start writing again. In 1991 she happened to meet Darley Anderson who was an agent. He told Margaret to write a woman centric regional saga.

Margaret Dickinson soon realized that her forte was romantic fiction. She was offered a contract for two books by Pan Macmillan in 1993. The first book was Plough the Furrow, which was published in 1994 and the sequel was Sow the Seed, published in 1995. She wrote a third book in 1996 by the title Reap the Harvest, which together with the first two constitutes the Fleethaven Trilogy.

Margaret Dickinson has written numerous other novels inspired by the country style of living. She wrote The Millers Daughter in 1997, which was inspired by a windmill near Skegness. Then came Chaff Upon the Wind, which was centered around the Manor House at Alford. It was published in 1998. Next in line was The Fisher Lass which was a love story but also highlighted the fishing way of life which came in 1999. She wrote a book The Tulip Girl in 2000 and The River Folk in 2001 which had Margarets birthplace Gainsborough as the backdrop.

Margaret Dickinson wrote a series of two books over 2002-2003, the Tangled Threads and The Twisted Strands. Both the books were based on the knitting and lace industries the latter emphasizing the impact of the Great War on the lives of the people in the lace industry. Margarets novel released in 2004, Red Sky in the Morning, evoked the era of the Second World War and its aftermath.

Margaret Dickinsons characters are always fictitious. In April 2005 her book, Without Sin was published, which revolved around the Workhouse Museum at Southwell. The other books by her, which have been highly appreciated, include Paupers Gold, Wish Me Luck and the like. She has also written a play called Embracing Tides to celebrate the millennium which won five awards in the Play Festival awards.

Margaret Dickinson lives in Lincolnshire these days with her husband Dennis with whom she has been married for the last forty years. Her family consists of two of her daughters who are grown up with kids. Her most latest work of pen titled Sing As We Go will be seen on the shelves in March 2008. Margaret dickinson
