In Greek mythology, the king of Gods, Zeus rules from Mount Olympus. He is also the god of sky and thunder. In Roman mythology, the king of Gods is called Jupiter while his in Etruscan legends, the counterpart of Zeus is said to be Tinia.

In Greek legends, the king Of Gods, Zeus is the youngest child of Kronos who in turn was the leader of the first generation of the Titans. Kronos had five previous children by Rhea who were swallowed by their own father in order to pre-empt the prophecy that Kronos would be eventually be overthrown by his own son. However Rhea hid Zeus after his birth and eventually the prophecy came true when Zeus defeated Kronos and the Titans.

According to Greek mythological stories, the king of Gods, Zeus was both the brother and consort of Hera. The two gave birth to other gods and goddesses like Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus. Zeus is known for his amorous liaisons with nymphs, other goddesses and even humans. Some of his other famous children are Aphrodite, Apollo, Athena, Persephone, Heracles, Hermes, Helen, Dionysus and the Muses.

The Greek mythological king of Gods, Zeus held the dominant position in the Olympian pantheon. He was worshipped as the god of thunder and as a symbol of power. As such he is often represented by the eagle, bull and oak and holds the thunderbolt as well as the scepter as his chief weapons. However, Zeus was much more than a mythological figure and stood as the embodiment of cultural and religious beliefs of the people of ancient Greece.

Other than his dominant position in the Greek mythology, the king Of Gods Zeus was worshipped by both Pan-Hellenic as well as local cults in Ancient Greece. Olympia was the main center where all the Greeks gathered to worship Zeus and where a festival was held every four years. The festival featured numerous games and races which have formed the origin of the modern-day Olympics.

On Mount Aetna, he was worshipped as Zeus Aetnaeus while the people of the island of Cephalania honored him as Zeus Aenesius. Some other places where Zeus presided over local cults were Crete, Dodona, Siwa, the festival of Lykaia and Sparta where he was worshipped as Zeus Agamemnon. Zeus
