The date of inception of the series was January 31, 1999, and the telecast concluded on February 14, 2002. The broadcast of the episodes resumed on May 1, 2005. However the interim was a period of telecast of the show called Adult Swim, coupled with an unprecedented increase in the sale of D.V.Ds.

The series depicts the life of the Carlin family. It shows how a family adjusts after moving from Ohio to Los Angeles. The series shows the girls questioning themselves about their own friendship. It was for the first time that N was dealing with such a controversial topic and it did create uproar.
