Mccain Panama Citizen Republican Frontrunner For White House

Arizona Senator John Sidney McCain III has emerged the Republican frontrunner in the race to the White House since Super Tuesday following his victories in nine of the 21 Red states including California where he won 170 delegates. It is believed that as proclaimed that McCain Panama citizen as per the US constitution cannot become a President.

Meanwhile, detractors have taken it upon themselves to question every step taken by the Republican presidential leader with journalists opening up the eligibility debate. They feel that McCain Panama citizen and may not be qualified to run for President by virtue of his place of birth, according to certain interpretations of the US constitution. McCain was born on August 29, 1936 at the Coco Solo Air Base in the US controlled Panama Canal Zone to US citizen parents.

American Voice Radio's Francis Steffan states that McCain Panama citizen, owing to his place of birth is therefore not a natural born (US) citizen as Panama Canal Zone is outside US territory and no longer under the control of the USA. In accordance to the US Constitution a person other than a natural born citizen or someone residing in the country at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President.

McCains followers, however, note that according to the Naturalisation Law of 1970, the children of citizens of United States born overseas or outside the limits of the United States shall be considered as natural born citizens and hence McCain Panama citizen eligibility is not under any doubt. Even Steffan has admitted that the US Constitution was written before the nation had bases in foreign soil like in the Panama Canal Zone or in Iraq but he argues that the authors of the Constitution did not intend children born outside US soil to be natural born citizens or they would have created provisions on the account.

He also states that being a naturalized citizen does not satisfy the eligibility criteria. While supporters are angered that this argument allows for children of illegal immigrants in the USA to display a better claim for Presidential candidature than someone like McCain Panama citizen serving in the military and showing exemplary nationalist virtue, others appreciate the criterion for putting a lid on non-US born residents like California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger running for the nations highest office, endangering the claim of traditional contestants who by default make up the definition of what it stands for.

Section I of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution grants persons such as McCain Panama citizen as an inherent natural born citizen. Voters have generally displayed no doubts over McCains citizenship but should the issue resurface, it will probably be the Supreme Court and the US Congress that will have the final say in the matter. McCain Panama citizen
