Grazyna Miller National Literature And Journalism Award Winner Poet


Grazyna Miller, whose work has been published by most esteemed Italian newspapers, was born in Poland, on January 29, 1957. She commenced writing poetry from her early childhood at age seven. Throughout her school life, she never ceased to write poetry in parallel to her study.

Having teaching as well as literature as her passion, Grazyna Miller decided to teach Polish. After finishing her high school, she started teach Polish literature. In 1983, she moved to Italy. From the very beginning of her life in Italy, she enrolled herself in the University of Foreigners of Sienna, Tuscany to study Italian language. Here her work was marked by her zeal to promote her native Polish culture and literature along with Polish-Sicilian Association during her years in Sicily.

In 1998, Grazyna Millers first collection of poems Curriculum was published. This was collection was presented in International Book Showcase held in Turin. Her second collection of poems was published in 2000 under the name of On Breaths Weave. Other than studying and translating, she has become a journalist working for some of the best Italian newspapers and cultural magazines, like the Roman Currier, The Poets Journal (Il Giornale dei Poeti).

Grazyna Millers most fabulous work in translation was translating the Roman Triptich Meditations( Trittico Romano Meditazioni) from Polish to Italian in 2003. The Roman Triptich Meditations was written by Pope John Paul II in Polish. The translated in Italian version was published in 2003 by Vatican with the presentation of the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. Pope John Paul II was present at the time of official presentation of the book on March 6, 2003 at Sala Tempa, Vatican. During this time, she received National Literature and Journalism Award. For the same book, in Spain, she received International Cartagena 2003 Award.

Grazyna Millers last collection of poems Alibi di una farfalla, in 2002 was presented in the Book Showcase of Frankfurt. It was as the same time included to Vatican book archives, a rare honor for the author. This book was inaugurated by the Mayor of Piazza Armerina.

While Grazyna Miller was given much national recognition in Italy, international recognitions also were given to her many times. In 2002, award from Minister of Italian Culture was given to her. Her poetic creativeness made her to win Luigi Vanvitelli award for 2001. Jagiellonian University of Cracow, gave her gold medal for Polish-Italian involvement and poetic creativity, in Poland. She was given international Best Of The Year 2001 award by Poland.

While both Italian as well as Polish media frequently write about Grazyna Millers works, Bel Paese, the Italian-American bilingual newspaper published in United States, has a dedicated permanent column for her poems. Grazyna Miller
