Dick Vitale Mark Twain Elementary School Basketball Coach
Dick Vitale was born in Passaic, New Jersey. His mother was a dressmaker while his father was a security guard. Vitale did his graduation from Seton Hall. Vitale had plans to be a teacher and his first appointment was that of a coach to Mark Twain Elementary School in Garfield. From a coach he consequently became the head coach of Garfield High School. Later he also became a head coach to East Rutherford High School.
From 1970 to 1972 Dick Vitale played an accomplice to head Coach Raymond Jones in Rutgers University. At around 1972 he was employed as the head coach to University of Detroit. Under the leadership of Vitale the tem managed to make it as big as to get to the NCAA Tournament. It is due to Vitale being their coach that the University of Detroit faced many victories.
Dick Vitale is very famous for the catch phrases he used. For instance he would call a very noticeable beginner as Diaper Dandy. For a prime time performer he would use the term PTPer. Different types of players and different shots played by them were given different terms by him. In fact he is remembered more for his catchphrases and the way he would pronounce them.
Dick Vitale had been a part of the ESPN network while no other coaching activity was available to him. In December 5, 1957, he arranged the first ever basketball game. He has in fact arranged many games. Vitale has many a times been condemned as favoring the Duke University without any reason. At times, while being on air Vitale would mention the Duke University, even when they were not a part of the tournament.
In 1994 Dick Vitale gave his voice to the Sega Genesis game. He also lent his voice as a commentator along with Nessler for EA Sports' NCAA March Madness video game. Vitale is also credited with writing an autobiography along with Dick Weiss entitled living a Dream. This book highlights many of his experiences as a coach.
Dick Vitale for the 1978-79 sessions had coached the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association. During the 1979-80 sessions Dick was removed from his position at Pistons. Dick's wife was Lorraine and they were blessed with two daughters. Vitale has been a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and used to be a frequent visitor in its shows.
