Naval Architects Marine Engineers Community


The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers was established with a goal to bring all the persons related to this profession under a community. The persons who are serving in maritime can be the member of this society. SNAME as it is popularly called is a forum which has a goal of advancement in marine engineering .The society was set up in 1893 .But then it was recognized as the United States engineering society.

Later it was renamed as The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. The society has become internationally famous and gets a large membership from all over the world. The head quarter of this society is now situated in Jersey City, New Jersey. This is a non profit organization. They provide career guidance to the prospective naval architects. Though it was a community mainly for the naval architects and marine engineers the many engineers from the other fields of the engineering are also get memberships. Presently it has 8000 members all over the world. The society has members from every seafaring country.The members are also included the individuals who deal with offshore industries.

The society of of Naval Architects encourages the improvement and research on naval architecture. They are also eager to popularize the practice of arts and techniques of naval Architectures. They also lend their hands in funding applied research on marine engineering, as well as shipbuilding.

This is purely a professional society. The experienced naval architects exchange their experiences and relevant information with their counterparts from other countries. Thus this helps the newcomers to improve their professional status .The members share a warm relationship among them and they help each other in the time of professional problem with proper guidance and advices.

The society of of Naval Architects strictly follows its own exclusive code of engineering ethics. Their ethics are actually taken from the Professional Engineers Code of Ethics. A Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture or , Engineering can be a member of this society. They also must have a fast hand experience in design or construction of ships. There are other membership grades such as fellow and affiliate. Students of naval architecture and marine engineering can also be members of this society. The Society covers all aspects of production and operation of ships. This society has also members from the field of engineering design. SNAME also bring out various technical research on the naval architectures and marine engineering . The members contributes their analysis on the respective research. Naval Architects
