Little Man Tate Drama Film Directorial Debut Of Jodie Foster

Directorial Debut of the actress, Jodie Foster, Little Man Tate is an emotional drama film released in the year 1991. The film was written by Scott Frank. The film stars Jodie Foster, Dianne Wiest and Adam Hann-Byrd among the lead characters. The film won a Special Award at the Young Artist Awards in the year 1993.

The story of the film, Little Man Tate revolves around a highly intellectual 7 year old boy and his mother, who both try to strike a balance and adjustment between them in order to lead a normal life. The boy is gifted with a high level of intelligence, which results in a tension between the mother and the child.

The film Little Man Tate features Fred (Adam Hann-Byrd), who is a seven year old and is gifted with a very high level of intelligence, which surpasses the intelligence level of his fellow classmates and companions of his age. They make fun out of him thinking him to be somewhat freak. Fred is finally left with his only companion, his generous mother to whom he turns for the answer to his questions.

In the film, Little Man Tate, Freds mother Dede (Jodie Foster), is a single mom and a working woman, who makes all efforts to nurture her sons future by attempting to provide him proper guidance and education. But she does not have enough means to provide for her sons education. Meanwhile, Fred goes to live with a child psychologist and teacher, who take interest in him. Although, the lady is quite excited with Freds genius but she fails to provide him the love, affection, comfort and homely environment.

Major part of the film, Little Man Tate was shot at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and the Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio. The film was released on October 18, 1991 in USA and met with a good audience response. Adam Hann-Byrds performance as Fred received great critical and public acclaim. He won a Special Award at the Young Artist Awards for Most Promising Young Newcomer.

The movie, Little Man Tate was produced by Scott Rudin and Peggy Rajski. The film was distributed by Orion Pictures Corporation.
