Paul Shirley was born in Redwood City, California on 23rd December; 1977.Paul grew up in the neighborhood of the small town of Meiden, Kansas. He started playing basketball since his schooldays at Jefferson West High School and grew to become a professional basketball player in 2002. At present, he is playing for Menorca Bsquet team of the Spanish ACB,USA. Paul has acquired a good amount of recognition as a writer , mostly centering around his experience related to the game of basketball.

610 tall Paul Shirley started his basketball career from the walk-on to attain three-year starter level at Cyclones basketball team which at that point of time had Tim Floyd as their coach. Tim Floyd became an NBA coach for a short stint and two members of this team, Jamaal Tinsley and Marcus Fizer, also became NBA players. During his junior season, the Cyclones progressed to the Elite 8 of the NCAA basketball tournament. During his college career, he achieved Academic All-Big 12 selection thrice. When in his senior season, Paul was named second-team Academic All-American.

After graduation, Paul Shirley played power-forward on behalf of thirteen professional teams. He played for teams of Badalona and Menorca in Spain and Kazan in Russia.
