Advocate Barristers Fighting Legal Suits In Courts

Advocate is a person who talks in a legal context on behalf of their clients. They are also known as barrister in some countries. The word is also used for a person who sometimes refers a product to his/her known people. They are authorized to present cases Supreme Courts and High Courts across the globe. They have to wear a particular dress, which consists of wigs, white bow-ties and gowns.

The advocate has to follow the rules laid down by the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh. There are 750 members in the faculty. The Dean, Vice-Dean, Treasurer and Clerk are elected through a ballot system every year. All the advocates belong to a service company, which looks after the fee collection. This is beneficial for all advocates as they cannot sue anybody for non –receipt of payment since their service is on an honorary basis.

All the advocates work independently but they all work in an organised manner mainly for administrative purposes. They are independent to plead any case. To become an advocate a person has to fulfil some educational qualifications. The applicant should possess a Bachelor Degree in LL.B. along with a Diploma Legal Practice, which qualifies them as solicitors.

The training period is for about 6 to 8 months and is often referred to as Devilling. Through out the entire course the devil master teaches various skills to the advocate. To gather enough experiences these trainees are required to work with the devil masters. They work in the criminal cases as well as civil cases along with their masters to see their way of practising. The senior advocates can train lawyers as advocates only if they have received an approval from the Dean. The list of qualified devil masters is available at the Deans clerks office.

A trainee can hear the clients case and help the devil master prepare a case. They also make a draft of the entire legal proceedings. They are also authorized to attend the consultation sessions. After the training session ends they become qualified advocates and are entitled to become a member of the Faculty of Advocates. The admission of an advocate to the faculty depends upon the report presented by the devil master. The person has to be competent enough to get a membership of the faculty.

Anyone who wants to be an advocate in Channel Islands must study at the Guernsey or Jersey Bar. They have to study there for 3 months. Some of the well-known advocates are Donald Findlay, Henry Home and John Balfour among many others. Advocate
