Exxon Mobil Oil Producing Company


Exxon Mobil is a multinational company formed in 30th November 1999. It was the merger between Exxon and Mobil Oil which created this company. If we consider the revenue earned in a year they are the largest earners by far with $404.5 billion as of July 20th 2007. Also if the market capitalization is considered they stand with $517.92 Billion.

Its shares in the market are shown as NYSE: XOM. Exxon Mobil has become the fastest growing oil company and they are the biggest producers of oil in the world at 6.5 million barrels of oil daily. They are currently located in Irving, Texas. Their major brands are Exxon, Mobil and Esso. There are over 82,000 employees spread across the world for this company. There are a few operational divisions which enables them to delegate their work for a smooth working process.

The Upstream division deals with oil exploration, extracting, shipping, and wholesale and the downstream division deals with the refining, retail operation and eventually marketing the products. The chemical division is based in Houston, Texas. Exxon Mobil is actually a descendant of John D Rockefeller Corporation which was established in 1870. In 1998 Exxon and Mobil signed a $73.7 billion agreement to merge and form the new company. They are considered to be the largest company in the planet.

The merger between the two giants was considered to be the biggest merger in the history of mankind. Exxon Mobil sold a refinery in Benicia in 2000 and 340 branded stations was sold to Valero Energy Corporation. They supply petroleum products to over 700 Mobil retail outlets based in California. Despite of their huge business activities they have been criticized for exploiting foreign oil fields in Angola. It was also rumored that they provided funds for the corrupt tenure of President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos in the 1990s.

On the way to becoming the largest company in the world Exxon Mobil has been held responsible for breaking many rules. Human rights activists have been targeting the company for agers. A lawsuit in June 2001 claimed that the company assisted human right violations. They were known to be in collaboration with the Indonesian military forces. Environmentally they were a target of GreenPeace and other environment protection agencies. They were ranked sixth on the Toxic 100 US companies polluting the air.

Exxon Mobil has been speculated to be the main reason behind the global warming phenomenon. The funded the skeptics of global warming immensely to keep them off the records for so many years. They have funded many organizations to get away with mass pollution. Despite all these criticism and lawsuits faced by the company they do not show any signs of changes. Being one of the major companies in the world they also play a major role in destroying the environment. Exxon Mobil
