Science Olympiad Competition For Students Skills Intelligence Talents

A Science Olympiad is a competition for high school students, organized by a non-profit organization, with an aim of recognizing the student talents and developing their skills in science.

The Science Olympiad may be national or international. National Olympiads are organized by the countries separately, for their students only. The students chosen from these Olympiads are sent to the International Olympiad to compete with students from other countries.

The International Science Olympiad has its own subdivisions. There are separate Olympiads for each of the subjects, like mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, philosophy, astronomy, geography, junior science and earth science.

The National Science Olympiad of America is among of the biggest competitions on science that are held in the world. Almost more than two million people take part in the Science Olympiad each year, directly or indirectly.

In 1983, Science Olympiad was founded by Dr.Gerard J. Putz and John C. Cairns. The first two tournaments were held in Michigan and Delaware. After their success, students from other districts also started taking interest in the Olympiad. Currently there are more than 14500 elementary, middle and high schools that actively participate in it. It has members in not only all of the 50 states, but also in Canada.

The participating schools are not allowed to bring more than 15 students. The Science Olympiad has 23 individual and tem events. The may participate in one or all of them. The events are changed every year, according to the new advancements and requirements.

Winners at the Science Olympiad are given individual medals as well as championship trophies. They also get cash and scholarships more than $1.5 million. These students not only get worldwide acclamation but also a path that could take them to a bright future.

In 1996, the Science Olympiad shook hands with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Since then the CDC has a event called Disease Detectives in every Olympiad. They invite the winners of this event to their headquarter in Atlanta with scholarship as well as internship offers.

Thus the Science Olympiad is growing every year with new challenges getting added to its list of events. With advanced technology by its side, the science community put its best ideas at test in the Olympiad, since this is the platform where future scientists are to be found.
