Melissa Francis is a former child actress who was born on December 12, 1972 in Los Angeles, California. She began her acting career in tele-films at the age of five. She is popular for her role in 21 episodes of Little House on the Prairie as Cassandra Cooper.

Melissa Francis also acted in the movie Man, Woman and Child along with Paula Beckwith. She also had an important role in the television series St. Elsewhere in 1986. She also acted in Family Affair where she played the role of Cynthia. She also played the role of young Cynthia in the film Bad Dreams in 1988.

Melissa Francis is the sister of a commercial actress, Tiffany Ann Francis. She was nominated for the category of Best Young Actress - Guest in a Television Series in 1986 for Hotel. She also won the Young Artist Award for her performance in Something about Amelia in 1985. In 1984, she won the Young Artist Award for her role in Man, Woman and Child. She was also nominated for Best Young Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Little House on the Prairie.

In 1995, Melissa Francis graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. She also served as the executive editor of the Harvard College Economist Magazine. Currently, she works as the news anchor for CNBC. At CNBC, she is the energy reporter and covered issues like oil and gasoline pricing, demand and supply of oil and the large corporations behind the oil related issues.

Melissa Francis also provides hourly reports from the New York Mercantile Exchange on trading in crude oil futures contracts. She predicted the ethanol boom in the United States long before it actually happened. For this foresight, she was named The Empress of Energy by anchor Larry Kudlow. As a reporter, she was appreciated for her presentation skills, prompt reporting and smart analysis.

Before Melissa Francis was an anchor for CNBC, she worked as a reporter for CNET. While working there, she covered technology, finance and consumer products. Prior to CNET, she was an anchor and reporter at many television stations in New England like Manchester, New Hampshire, Providence. She worked as a morning anchor and as assignment reporter for WFSB-TV (CBS) in Hartford.

Earlier to that, Melissa Francis worked as a general assignment reporter at News 12, Edison, N.J. She also served as a reporter for WLNE-TV in providence and WMUR-TV (ABC) in Manchester.
