Laura Linney is a movie and television actress and a theatre personality who has won an Emmy award. She was born on February 5, 1964 in New York City to Ann Perse, a nurse and Romulus Linney, a playwright and professor. From her fathers second marriage, she had a stepsister named Susan.

Laura Linney attended Northfield Mount Hermon School in 1982 and received her higher education from Northwestern University. She then transferred to Brown University from where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. After finishing off her graduation, she then went to study acting at the Juilliard School.

In 1995, Laura Linney married David Adkins and they stayed together for five years. In the year 2000, they got divorced due to some personal reasons. In the year 20007, she is slated to get engaged to Marc Schauer.

Before 1990, Laura Linney appeared in small roles in some movies including Dave. In 1993, she gained popularity with the television series Tales of the City. After that, she appeared in some action thrillers like Congo, Absolute Power and Primal Fear.

In the year 2000, Laura Linney was nominated for the category of best Actress in the Academy Award for her performance in the movie, You Can Count on Me. She was noted for her performance in several popular movies like Love Actually, Mystic River, and The Life of David Gale in 2003.

In 2004, Laura Linney was nominated for the category of Best Supporting Actress in Academy Awards for her performance in Kinsey. She was also cast in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which was a horror movie and courtroom drama in 2005.

In 2005, Laura Linney also played a role in the comedy movie, The Squid and the Whale that received excellent reviews from the critics. For this movie, she was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture in Golden Globe. In the year 2006, she was cast in Man of the Year, a political satire directed by Robin Williams.

Laura Linney also appeared in the comedy movie, Driving Lessons that also included Rupert Grint as a part of the cast. She acted in The Nanny Diaries that was based on an Emma McLaughlin book in which she was cast alongside Scarlett Johansson. She also acted in the blockbuster, The Savages, where she played the role of the sister of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

One of her most popular television ventures includes Mary Ann Singleton, which was the television adaptation of the Tales of the City books. For her performance in Wild Iris, Laura Linney won the Emmy Award in 2002 as she was nominated for the category of Outstanding Lead Actress. Her second Emmy award came with her performance in the television series Frasier for which she was nominated under the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.Laura Linney
