Mars God Of Wars Roman Mythology Ancient Gods

Greek Mythology contains some of the greatest epic stories that the world has ever heard of. According to the Greeks, they had a God for almost each and every tangible and intangible object that they saw around them in their ancient life. By tangible, we mean elements like fire, water, earth while intangible refers to aspects like love, peace, jealousy, etc. And each of the Gods were either good or bad. One of them was Mars God of Wars.

Mars God of Wars was one of the ancient gods of the Roman mythology. People say that he was the son of Jupiter and Juno. The reason why he is considered as an important God to the Romans is that legends say he was the father of the founders of the city of Rome, Romulus and Remus. Thus to all the Romans, he is considered as their father and a protector.

As a matter of fact, Mars God of Wars is still worshipped and respected with the same amount of faith by the modern day Romans, as their ancestors had done all these years. In the ancient times, Rome was one of the greater superpowers of the world and they once had the whole of North Africa, Europe and the Middle East under their jurisdiction. Till now, they still believe that success came in their way just because the God of War was impressed with them.

Actually this belief has been hereditarily carried down generations after generations into this modern age. In those days, they used to carry out various festivals and occasions in order to pay their tribute to Mars God of War. The Romans have celebrated these festivals annually from that time onwards and is still celebrated with great fervor these days. In fact, it is this Roman God that has the most number of festivals by his name in the Roman calendar.

The character of Mars God of Wars has been given a human shape by many Roman Sculptors of the ancient times. Being the God of War, he is seen to be wearing battle armor with a helmet and shield in his hand. In most of the sculptures he is seen to be accompanied by a wolf and a woodpecker who are considered his sacred animals. Mars
