Oshkosh Truck NYSE was founded in the year 1917 and was initially known as the Wisconsin Duplex Auto Co. This company employs more than 7,000 people in five different countries whereas it is headquartered in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Oshkosh Truck is well renowned for its heavy duty, multipurpose trucks, which are made for purposes as varied as military vehicles, airport duty, ambulances, fire trucks, trash haulers, concrete mixers etc. Their first heavy-duty prototype was however, a four-wheel drive military truck, which is now known as Old Betsy and is even today used in parades etc.

Their unique ProPulse diesel-electric drive is a technology used on all their heavy duty trucks, which makes their vehicles 20% more fuel efficient and capable of producing more than 100 kilowatts of military grade electricity. In fact these vehicles are capable of generating electricity required for a military base, a hospital or any other emergency site.

These military vehicles manufactured by Oshkosh Truck, have been tested in the most rugged conditions and have proven that they can survive on tough terrains. At the same time the easy mobility of the vehicle is not sacrificed. This technology helps in providing protection to the marines and soldiers in life threatening situations on the battlefield.

Oshkosh Truck is also renowned for its state of the art next generation unmanned ground vehicles, called Terramax, which can be operated from a distance and its technology will be used to manufacture the first autonomous vehicle to be used by the military. This vehicle works on a 4x4 rear steer, Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement technology and has a 21ft-turning radius in spite of its bulky size and the fact that it can haul 5 tons in off-road conditions.

The autonomous technology of Terramax manufactured by the Oshkosh Truck has also proven its reliability by winning the DARPA Urban Challenge, due to the fact that the wheelbase is shortened, handling the vehicle and controlling the maneuverability even on the streets, during the DARPA challenge.

The development of this technology used in the Oshkosh Truck vehicles, for the DARPA challenge was triggered by the American Governments aim to make 30 per cent combat vehicles in the battlefield autonomous and remote operated by the year 2015. The unmanned ground technology used in the vehicles manufactured by Oshkosh Truck allows equally convenient conventional and manual operation of the vehicle. In fact the driver can use the autonomous kit in harmony with the manual system to improve the performance of the vehicle.

These trucks are equipped with a sensor suite, which provides 360-degree awareness, around the vehicle. In fact the drivers of these trucks to enhance their awareness can use the autonomous technology in harmony with the manual operations. This complete kit helps to make these vehicles ideal for applications like the removal of snow especially on airport runways.
