Acne is highly individualized and differs from person to person, each person having different kinds of problems and the acne medicines used also differ. While some use the home remedies and herbal medicines for curing it, others use prescribed drugs and some even act according to suggestions from dermatologists. The sooner acne is treated, the earlier would acne medicines show results. To prevent scarring and more severe forms, it must be treated at an early stage.

Topical antimicrobials and topical retinoids are common active ingredients in all medicines used to cure acne. Even combination products are now used along with hormone therapy. Oral antibiotics are also used. Over the counter medicines are commonly used for treatment and can be effective for milder varieties of the infection, showing results in 4 to 8 weeks.
