The prevalence of the disease can be attributed to long exposures to the sun in the form of sun tanning or sun bathing. In the US, the disease is widespread, due to this tendency of people and whiter skinned individuals are more likely to develop this.

Symptoms of skin cancer consist of discoloration of the skin, skin ulcers, infections or changes in the skin which do not heal, and changes in the existing moles. The exposed skin of the head, neck or shoulders might develop sores, with visible blood vessels in the tumor or even bleeding at times might be accompanied.
