Cashmere Mafia is a television drama that follows the life of four ambitious young women in the city of New York. The four women are good looking and have been good friends since their days at business school together.
The four friends try to balance their personal lives and highly glamorous career in the city of New York. They create their own boys club which is known as The Cashmere Mafia and they meet regularly to discuss their complex lifestyles and the ups and downs in life.
Cashmere Mafia is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television, Darren star and Gail Katz. The series is directed by Kevin Wade who also serves as an executive producer alongside the others. The series which looks to be in a copy book style of the HBO original series Sex and the City was originally created to be a mid season replacement. The series was originally created to be only for thirteen episodes and was scheduled for debut on November 2007, as a one-off replacement for the results of Dancing with the Stars on ABC network.
But the strikes of the American writers guild delayed the release of Cashmere Mafia and it was finally aired with a special preview on January 6, 2008. The show from then on has been shown in the 10:00 pm slot, from January 9 onwards, on Wednesdays after the show Supernanny.
It is now being shown as a replacement to the show Dirty Sexy Money. The opening episode titled the Pilot episode was directed by Peyton Reed. Cashmere Mafia is also being shown in Malaysia, Ireland, Belgium, Croatia, Australia and Canada.
Cashmere Mafia stars Lucy Liu (as Mia Mason), Frances OConnor (as Zoe Burden), Miranda Otto (as Juliet Draper) and Bonnie (as Caitlin Dowd) in the title roles. The episodes titled Dangerous Liaisons and The Deciders will be aired on Jan 16 and Jan 23 respectively.
In just the second episode of Cashmere Mafia critics are left without any choice but to mock the show. The main characters are all being acted by talented actresses but the story line and the dialogues is making them look silly and superficial.
Though parts of the plot largely tries to relate to the large female viewing audience but Cashmere Mafia is nowhere near to being a good show and is making the audience feel like they are watching a strange parody in the city of New York.
