
Brian Jacques is a well known author born on 15th June, 1939. He has written several popular books like the Tribes of Redwall series, Tribes of Redwall and Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Liverpool in 2005.
Brian Jacques was born as James Brian Jacques in Liverpool, England. He grew up in the areas surrounding the Liverpool docks. He was called as only Brian as both his father and one of his brothers are also known as James. He attended St. John private school till the age of 15.
He expressed his knack for writing from a very early age. He was assigned to write a story about animals at the age of ten. Brian Jacques wrote about a bird that cleaned a crocodiles teeth. He impressed his teacher with his exceptional writing and could believe that he could write such an original story at such a young age. After this incident Brian realized his talent for writing.
Brian Jacques left his school at the age of 15, as it was the tradition at that time. He set out to seek adventure as a merchant sailor. He eventually grew tired of the lonely life at sea after he had traveled to numerous ports around the world. He then returned to Liverpool and tried his hands at several jobs like boxing, stand up comic, bus driver, a policeman, Railway fire man, and also a post master.
Brian Jacques writing works were shown to a publisher by his friend Alan Durband. Brians work was highly appreciated by the publishers and he was signed to write the next five books in the series. He based the characters of his books on himself and several people he has encountered during his travels.
Brian Jacques has written several novels like the Redwall series, Redwall picture books, Tribes of Redwall series, Miscellaneous Redwell books, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series, Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales, Usro Brunov, Little Father of all Bears.He written two collections of short stories titled, The Ribbajack & Others Curious Yarns and Seven Strange and Ghostly Tales.
Brian Jacques has also written stage plays like Brown Bitter, Wet Nellies and Scouse. Brians novels have been published in twenty eight languages and have sold more than twenty million copies around the world. He has also hosted a radio show on BBC Radio Mereyside. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Liverpool.
