MLS Affiliated To Wincosin Evangelical Lutheran Synod In Michigan

MLS fully called as Michigan Lutheran Seminary, is a privately owned secondary high school that has got its affiliation with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod that is situated in Saginaw, Michigan. It imparts education to the students from all over the world. The total number of students was 275 in the year 2006 in the 9th to 12th grades, selected from 14 states, seven among twelve districts of the WELS, as well as three different countries.

This school in association with its sister concern namely Luther Preparatory School, which is based in Watertown, Wisconsin is aimed at providing knowledge in the field of public ministry of the gospel to such level that they can easily get admission in the Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minnesota. MLS carries out a single course to update the students as per the needs of the Martin Luther College.

The curriculum of Michigan Lutheran Seminary or MLS mainly highlights on the education of Biblical history and theology. They also give lots of importance to the study of foreign languages mainly Latin, German, and Spanish as well as music comprising of choirs, band, piano, and organ. It goes beyond the standards that are established by the State of Michigan for college admission . The faculty of MLS comprises of 22 professors, who work full time, 2 part-time instructors, and 4 tutors mainly who are the dormitory supervisors.

Among the various performing groups, the Pom Pons under the coach namely Nicole Greanya, does the dancing at the occasion of pep rallies and during every home football games and basketball games for boys. All juniors as well as seniors of the MLS are permitted to participate, who fulfill the eligibility criteria.

Court Street Players contribute to develop interest and participation of the students in the field of theater arts with the stage coach as Professor Marcus Manthey. They form two productions every year. One of them as a fall children production and the other one a spring general production.The director namely Professor Rebecca Berg of the band of MLS provides for the recreation of home boys' basketball as well as football games.

Currently MLS is undergoing financial crisis which amounts to four million dollars in the synod. As a result the WELS Synodical Council decided to shut the door of Michigan Lutheran Seminary, which was running as a preparatory school but still it is running and imparting knowledge to its students on religious grounds.
