America West Airlines Arizona Based Operating Contractual Subsidiaries

The US Airways is an airline holding group that operates from Arizona in the United States of America. This organization has a number of subsidiary organizations that operate on a contractual basis. These include airlines like Republic Airlines, Colgan Air and Air Midwest as a few examples. The group, however, also has a number of subsidiary divisions operating within its organizational framework. The US Airways Express is an example of such a subsidiary and so was America West Airlines.

There are ten major commercial airlines in the United States of America till the year 2007. Up till then, America West Airlines used to be a major American airline service as well. This airline service had its main headquarters in Arizona, where the headquarters of US Airways are also located. Apart from the hub at Phoenix in the state of Arizona, this airline service also had another operational hub at Las Vegas.

This airline service was originally the subsidiary of the parent company called America West Holdings Corporation. Established originally in the year 1981, America West Airlines had Ed Beauvais as its first chief executive officer. Doug Parker later became its CEO. The organization at that point of time allowed the passengers to purchase tickets once aboard the aircraft. For commercial commuting, the airline service used the aircraft that was widely used as a passenger airliner then, the Boeing 737, rather than its smaller sibling the Boeing 707.

The America West Airlines also scaled a number of obstacles in terms of employment and job facilities. For example, this service was among the first to allow its employees to be trained in a variety of domains regarding aviation. This allowed for excellent mobility of personnel through the organization, thereby making the employees versatile in their qualifications and capabilities alike. Moreover, the employees were required to invest in the stocks of the company in order to facilitate its growth.

As a direct consequence of this, the company registered appalling rates of growth through the early 1980s. The extent of the commercial fleet of America West Airlines continued to burgeon rapidly, until bankruptcy seemed imminent in the year 1986. By then, the airline service had also added a number of Boeing 757s to its fleet. In 1989, a number of Boeing 747s were added to the fleet.

Bankruptcy finally placed the organization at the end of its tether from the early 1990s. However, the year 1994 witnessed a reorganization following which, the America West Airlines placed the maximum share of its ownership in the hands of other airline services like Continental Airlines and Mesa Airlines. This airline service has recorded only three major accidents till date. In the year 2007, it merged with the US Airways organization. America West Airlines
