Jamie Reed Labor Member Of Parliament Copeland Constituency


The Labor Member of Parliament Jamie Reed or Jamieson Ronald Reed was born on 14th March, 1973 at Whitehaven, Cumbria. He is the grandson of GMB union leader Thompson Reed who is known as the union boss. In the general election of 2005 after the retirement of former MP Jack Cunningham, Jamie was elected from Copeland constituency with a 6,300 majority.

Jamie Reed spent most of his early time in Copeland. He started his schooling at Whitehaven School at Whitehaven, Copeland. Then he moved to Manchester and joined Manchester Metropolitan University and then completed his masters in Mass Communications from Leicester University.

Jamie Reed now spends his morning days replying e-mails and letters. He works for 16 hours a day and spends every evening with his wife and young family in his small flat in Islington.

Before starting his political career Jamie Reed worked as a Press Officer at former nuclear power station named BNFL for four years. During the time in BNFL he protested against the companys radioactive discharge into the sea at the Sellafield site. He also served for Copeland Borough Council.

Jamie Reed was short-listed by the labor party with Bell Pottinger, Board Director and former special adviser to Cunningham, Tim Walker, and Thomas Docherty, another BNFL PR man. Finally, he contested form Copeland constituency and had bagged over 17,000 votes. At the time of the election, Reed claimed that one of his major tasks will be to fight for a new generation of nuclear plants in the United Kingdom.

When Jamie Reed was elected he received a letter from the Managing Director of Management Services at BNFL where he was congratulated by the Managing Director. In this letter, he was mentioned as a valuable member of the Sellafield Public Affairs team who knows the site, the issues and their new world intimately.

The labor party not only chose Jamie Reed as the only pro-nuclear spin doctor to represent the Copeland seat. Reed claimed that donation to his constituency party is received from the GMB trade union. Both this union and Reed welcomed the Tony Blairs review as a PM about energy and possible resumption of nuclear power.

Jamie Reed has extensive consultations with the academics from Lancaster University who are entrusted with the task of exploring every possibilities of having a medical faculty that can have a direct link with the proposed new hospital for West Cumbria. Jamie Reed
