For its size (56,271 square miles) the state has a very low elevation difference. The lowest and highest points in the state are Keokuk in southeastern Iowa at 480 feet and Hawkeye Point at 1,670 feet respectively. Des Moines, located in Polk County, is the capital of Iowa.

As you study the Iowa demographics you come to know that as per the census results of 2006 Iowa has an estimated population of 2,982,085. About 28.7% of Iowas population are under 18 and 56.6% of the population are between 18 and 65. Approximately 49.2% of the population is male. The most densely populated city of Iowa is Marshalltown in Marshall County. Iowans are mostly of Western European descent. Three of the largest ancestry groups are; Irish (13.5%), English and German (35.7%).

Apart from knowing about Iowa demographics you should also know that a number of attractions are dotted around the state of Iowa. Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and The Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, which are located in the West Branch, are two of the most prominent sites that tourists come to see. Former US president Herbert Hoovers birthplace and grave are in fact a major tourist attraction and the sites also have the presidential museum. There is a considerable tourist influx in the state and it must be mentioned here that the state has a very popular amusement park that is located in Altoona just northeast of Des Moines. It is known as Adventureland and is a great place for tourists. Apart from that there is also the AGBRAI - the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride across Iowa.Iowa
