Abraham Lincolns Childhood USA President

Son of Thomas & Nancy Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's childhood years started off in Kentucky, US where he was born in 1809. His forefathers hailed from England and moved to USA in 1637. Not much is known about his mother and Lincoln himself had a doubt of the legitimacy of her birth. His grandfather who shared the same name was killed in 1786. Abraham had a sister, 2 years his senior and the other kid that his mother gave birth two was a male child who died after birth.

Young Abraham Lincoln's childhood days were spent in great hardship. Being born in a log cabin, spending the winter when he was just eight years old under a makeshift shelter. He spent a great part of his young life felling trees and cutting logs under the directions of his father. This might have caused a bitter feeling in his mind about his father because when the latter passed away in 1851, Abraham did not attend the funeral. During his young days, he was also kicked by a horse and was in a light coma for a short period of time. These rough & tough living and his rustic look helped him a lot when he campaigned for the post of the President in 1860.

Shortly after his accident with the horse, Abraham Lincoln's childhood faced another tragedy when his mother, Nancy, died. Thomas married a widower, Sarah, who had 3 kids from her previous marriage. Abraham developed a feeling of camaraderie & affection with his new mother & her kids. Despite being tall and thin he lived a hale life both in his youth days and also during adulthood. Despite the fact that his parents were not literate, Abraham took pains to educate him and used to read a lot from quite a young age.

Again, notwithstanding the fact that he did not complete his studies in school, missing the target by one year, Abraham Lincoln's childhood days were spent in reading all-time great classical books like `Robinson Crusoe'. He was an avid reader of the Bible too. His courage is amply demonstrated by the fact, that despite being beaten up by hoodlums during his first trip to New Orleans he made a second trip to the same place three years later, as the helper of a flatboat dealer who later on helped him to become the clerk of a village store in New Salem.

Accepting the above job was partly due to the fact that he was fed up of his father's habit of relocating once every few years. Since Abraham Lincoln's childhood years lacked too much of education, he spent the idle hours in the store to improve his academics. He was quite a popular man in the village and taking advantage of the same he planned to contest for the Illinois General Assembly in 1832, a dream that was crushed due to the outbreak of a civil war. To fight back with them who had started this war, young Abraham joined a group of men formed by the Governor of Illinois. He never had to face any real combat though. Lincoln
