
Nia Vardalos is a Golden Globe nominated actress and an Academy Award-nominated producer and screenwriter. Though she has been a part of many great projects, she gained popularity with her role in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Since this movie was a big blockbuster, it inspired a television series called My Big Fat Greek Life.
She was born as Antonia Eugenia Vardalos on September 24, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Doreen, homemaker, and Constantine Gus Vardalos, a land developer. She attended Ryerson University and married actor Ian Gomez on September 5, 1993. Prior to the marriage, Nia Vardaloss husband converted to Greek Orthodox and became a dual citizen in 1999.
Nia Vardalos started her professional career on stage at the local theater, the Rainbow Stage and used her stage experience as the basis to get admission into Toronto's Ryerson University. Then she became a part of Toronto's Second City comedy theater, which is known as the training center for producing comic talents. She eventually shifted to Chicago's Second City Theater where she wins Chicago's Jeff Award for Best Actress.
Apart from John Corbett, the television series, My Big Fat Greek Life had the original movie cast and it was telecasted on CBS. In 2004, she acted in Connie and Carla that also starred Toni Collette. Nia Vardalos acted with her husband in many movies like Meet Prince Charming and she made guest appearance on the show The Drew Carey Show in 1997.
Due to amazing screen presence and briliant acting quality, Nia Vardalos soon became popular among the audience. She took the industry by surprise with the sudden poupulairty of her movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Her career underwent a major hike due to the movies success at the grass root level.
In 2007, Nia Vardalos acted in great movies like A Wilderness of Monkeys and My Life In Ruins, which will release in 2008. She also was a part of the Dialogue interview series where she talks about her experiences in the Second City comedy troupe, which assisted her as an actress and screenwriter. In this 90-minute interview with producer Mike de Luca, she talks extensively about her movies and her experience as an actress.
Nia Vardalos has acted in movies like No Experience Necessary in 1996, Men Seeking Women in 1997 and Meet Prince Charming in 1999. She has been a guest star on television shows like Oprah Winfrey Show and Curb Your Enthusiasm. She has been the guest host on shows like Saturday Night Live in 2002 and has provided voice over in Team Knight Rider.
