Minnesota & Ontario Paper Company was founded by E W Backus in the early 1900s. He was an industrialist, dam builder, timber baron and financier who realized the potential of the northern regions of Minnesota. Besides founding this company, he was also responsible for building a hydroelectric dam between the International Falls area and Fort Frances, Ontario which provided much of the power required by the paper mills in the region. Wamu News Buyout Plan Stock Falls Sharply 25 Percent 57 Percent Drop In Share Value
The stock of Washington Mutual Inc. dropped by 25 percent after news that it was desperately looking for a buyer to bail itself out of its financial woes.
