Laura Okmin Sports Journalist CNN Sports Illustrated


Laura Okmin is a popular sports anchor and a sports journalist working for television. She does her anchoring specially on CNN or Sports Illustrated. Laura was working as an anchor and reporter for Chicago Sports Channel before she joined CNN. In 1996, she was selected for working from the Chicago Bureau as the Midwest Region Correspondent. Okmin was seen anchoring both in 60-minute and 30-minute sportscasts from October 1995 to September 1996.

Laura Okmin had to cover the Bears games and had to conduct the live post-games interviews for the time span of the Bulls playoff run. She worked in many places and with many sports channels. Her roles as a producer, anchor and reporter were appreciated. She was engaged from December 1994 to September 1996 working for the NBC affiliate, WRCB-TV in Chattanooga and Tenn.

Laura Okmin had been given the sole responsibility to write, edit and produce for 11 PM and 6 PM weekend sportscasts. Laura also provided her service as the weekday sports reporter ready for the channel. Her working at WHOA-TV is also another great experience. This channel is better known as the ABC affiliate in Montgomery. Apart from other roles, she also did the job as a news anchor in the channel. In 1993, Laura worked for ESPN serving as a field producer.

Lura Okmin completed her formal education in journalism. She studied honors from the University of Kansas. She obtained her bachelors degree from this university in 1991. That time the career for a woman as a sports journalist was not so popular like that of today. As she revealed later the situations changed and came in favor of women after 10 years of her career.

Laura Okmin is a strong supporter of women in sports journalism. As she feels, the knowledge and professional background of a woman must be treated with utmost importance to boost the sports arena. The fact should also be kept in mind that acceptance of women in sports arena creates a huge attraction and it makes sense.

Laura Okmin admits the fact that appearance has always been an issue for TV journalism or field journalism, be it sports or other arenas. However, many channels and producers are not ready to accept the truth. Laura Okmin has the attractiveness and possesses in-depth knowledge of journalism and is experienced too. As she says, in journalism, you have to prove your knowledge by your sincere and fruitful work.

Laura Okmin is currently attached with FSN Sports located in Los Angeles. She is working as an anchor there. As she observes, almost every news channel recruits at least one lady sports journalist. She comments that women are also responsible for not having rapid growth in the arena of sports journalism. They need to come out from the comfort zone and establish them with strong foothold.Okmin
