Thirteen Ghosts William Castle Horror Film

Thirteen Ghosts is a horror film directed by Steve Beck in 2001. In 1960, the original film was directed by William Castle. Even this version of the movie is from a previous film namely House on Haunted Hill. The film earned profound reputation with the lead cast of Murray Abraham and Tony Shalhoub along with co stars Shannon Elizabeth, Alec Roberts, Rah Digga and J.R. Bourne.

The Story of Thirteen Ghosts is about Cyrus Kriticos played by Abraham who hunts ghosts for a living. He loses his life while catching a spirit in a junkyard but his team manages to catch the ghost. The story turns to Arthur played by Tony Shalhoub who is Cyrus' nephew and a well known mathematician. The story shows the struggle in his life along with his children until Cyrus' lawyer visits him to unveil that they have inherited an old manor house from Arthur's uncle.

Thirteen Ghosts then goes into a thrilling twist as the castle is home to 13 imprisoned ghosts. Arthur is visited by a neurotic psychic who explains to him the horrors the mansion can bring in their lives. Arthur pays no heed to the psychic and begins living in the mansion with his family. Things start to go wrong when the seal which bounds the ghosts is broken accidentally. Arthur and Dennis then try to fight away the ghost to save Kathy and Bobby.

The story of the Thirteen Ghosts continues when a ghost saves Arthur and Kathy. She explains the reason for the building of the house and speaks about the Ocularis Infernum which was the eye of hell. It was speculated that the eye is a portal which can lead a man to see the future. In order to activate the portal twelve ghosts are required but if a thirteenth ghost interferes in the process the system shuts down.

Arthur realizes that he was to be the thirteenth ghost to stop the other ghosts from escaping. The Thirteen Ghosts story resumes when Cyrus is revealed to have faked his death to lure Arthur into the mansion. Later Arthur realizes that by dying he would not stop the process but enhance it. As a ghost appears Dennis pushes Arthur out of the way and sacrifices his life. Arthur goes on to save Kathy and Bobby.

The Thirteen Ghost story continues as Arthur saves his children and Maggie the babysitter finds the main control of the house to disable the system. The glass house then shatters and all the ghosts are released. The ghosts flee the scene and one of them lingers briefly to say goodbye and thanks to the family. The film ends with the baby sitter making a rash but comical comment about her job description. The movie was a box office hit and gained major recognition. Thirteen Ghosts
