The Call is an astounding rock band formed in the 1980s in the city of Santa Cruz. The band was based in San Francisco Bay. The band's lead singer and guitarist Michael Been was the mind behind the formation of this band and was from Oklahoma. Scott Musick and Tom Ferrier were the other members of the band.

The Call began their tenure in 1982 with their first album and later had a total of ten albums by 2000. Their debut album was the same as their name. They recorded their first album in England despite facing many problems at that time. They said that even though the album was compassionate it actually let out their anger. The band opened for Peter Gabriel in 1982 during the Shock the Monkey tour. They were constantly in the good books of the listeners.

Their second album was the Modern Romans and it had immense political substance. The Call later commented that during the release of their second album political imparity created a tensed vibe in the nation and they wanted to portray that theme into their songs to relive the fans off the horrors of politics. Their third album was spectacular due to its poetic lyrics. It was called the Scene Beyond Dream and the band changed the genre of their music.

During the mid 80s, The Call released their fourth album named Reconciled. This album was released under constant pressure and tension between their former recording label company and their management. Despite of the hurdles the band went on to top the charts with their songs. After the contract signing with Elektra Records they went on make the most successful album of their career. Reconciled had cameos from Peter Gabriel, Jim Kerr, Hudson and Robbie Robertson.

In 1987, The Call released their fifth album Into the Woods which was much appreciated by the fans. Even the band members said that it was their favorite of all time. Two years later, they came up with the profound album let the Day Begin. The title track of this album topped the rock charts for a long time. Then there was Red Moon in 1990 which featured Bono from U2. They went on to make exquisite albums throughout their career.

After the members of The Call departed they went on to having solo careers. Been started composing the music to the film Light Sleeper in 1992. He went on to record his solo album in 1994, On the Verge of a Nervous Breakthrough. In 1997 under the Fingerprint Record, the album To Heaven and Back was released and in 2000 Live under the Red Moon was released. They have a fan club called Notified. The Call
