Robert Zoellick Financial Expert


Robert Zoellick or Robert Bruce Zoellick is an important figure in the financial world as he is the eleventh president of the World Bank since July 11, 2007. Prior to that this great financial expert was United States Deputy Secretary of State and later the U.S. Trade Representative. He was born on July 25, 1953 at Naperville, Illinois, where he was raised.

Robert Zoellick was also a part of the investment bank Goldman Sachs as a managing director and chairman of the company's International Advisors department and was in the year 2007 nominated by the President George W. Bush nominated. He has replaced Paul Wolfowitz as President of the World Bank after the Presidents nomination was approved by the World Bank's executive board.

The ancestors of Robert Zoellick were German and basically he was from the German city of Rostock. This financial wiz graduated from Naperville Central High School as well as later from the Phi Beta Kappa in 1975 from Swarthmore College. During his stint in college he received his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in the year 1981. He was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana.

Robert Zoellick is a name to reckon in the financial world. An interesting fact about him is that after his graduation from Harvard Law School he served as a law clerk for Judge Patricia Wald on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. During this time he made quite a reputation from himself and what is noteworthy is that he has also served in various positions at the Department of the Treasury from 1985 to 1988.

Other significant achievements of Robert Zoellick were that he was a Counselor to Secretary James Baker, Executive Secretary of the Department, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy. Apart from that he was also appointed an Executive Vice President at the Federal National Mortgage Association and had also served as the John M. Olin Professor of National Security at the U.S. Naval Academy. A Research Scholar at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Senior International Advisor to Goldman – are a few of the laurels that can be added to his illustrious career.

Robert Zoellick on January 26, 1998 signed the letter to President Bill Clinton from PNAC that advocated war against Iraq. In the year 1999 for a brief while he was the head of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. In the 2000 U.S. presidential election campaign, Zoellick served as a foreign policy advisor to George W. Bush where he played a remarkable role. At the same time as part of a group, led by Condoleezza Rice that called itself The Vulcans he made noteworthy contributions that had later impact on his career. Robert Zoellick
