Sanders NFL Offensive Player Award Winner


Barry Sanders, a Hall of Fame is renowned prolific, football running backs in NFL history. This Legend Lion was born on July 16, 1968. Currently, Sanders resides in suburban Detroit with his consort Lauren Campbell and four children.

Barry Sanders commenced his career in 1989. He bagged many awards like NFL Offensive player, Bert Bell Award and Heisman Trophy. Sanders accomplished Pro Bowl status and was named All-Pro. He was also called All-NFC, named to the 1990s NFL All-Decade team.

During his college season, Sanders gave his outstanding performances. He spearheaded the nation by averaging 7.6 yards per carry and over 200 yards per game, including rushing for over 300 yards in four games. He set records with 2,628 yards rushing, 3,249 total yards, 234 points, 39 touchdowns winning the Heisman Trophy.

From 1986 to 1988, Sanders played for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Initially, he backed up All-American Thurman Thomas. When Thomas moved on to the NFL and Sanders became the appetizer. Thereafter because of his extraordinary performance, the Detroit Lions selected him in the 1989 in the first round under the tutelage of Coach Wayne Fontes.

The Lions' management felt Sanders was swift and strapping for defenders to hit solidly and bring down with arm tackles. He was honored for his on-field meekness. Though in his rookie year, Sanders could not become part of training camp as a result of a contract discrepancy, he ran for 18 yards and scored a touchdown on his fourth. After completing NFL, he won the Rookie of the Year Award. In 1994, Sanders rushed for 2,166 yards, on 5.7 yards per carry average bagging NFL's Offensive Player of the Year. For a year, he suffered a set back in career and once again revived in 1997.

In 1997, he succeeded with 53 yards on 25 carries in the first two games. Sanders broke an NFL record reaching the 2,000-yard plateau; he became only the third player to do so in a single season and the first since O. J. He was the first running back to rush for 1,500 yards in five seasons and the only one to do it four consecutive years winning the Associated Press's NFL Most Valuable Player Award. At the age of 30, Sanders officially declared his retirement from pro football. His retirement shocked public who in lieu faxed a letter to the Wichita Eagle, his hometown newspaper.
