Tammy Faye Messner was a multi talented person who was an evangelist, singer, author, entrepreneur, talk show host and a television personality who co-hosted the PTL Club along with her husband, Jim Bakker. She was particularly known for her love for make-up.

Tammy Faye and husband Jim Bakker had been involved in a number of television shows for a long time. They co-hosted a popular childrens show named Jim and Tammy. From 1964 to 1973, they formed puppet ministry for children on Christian Broadcasting Network. They were also the co-founders of the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

In the mid 1970s Tammy Faye formed the PTL Club along with her husband. She provided the stories with a personal touch and even sang. She was portrayed as being sympathetic towards AIDS victims and urged people to pray for the sick. In course of time the empire grew. But controversial allegations caused a setback and the PTL collapsed in 1987.

Investigations were carried out against Tammy Faye and her husband and finally the PTL went bankrupt when it was taken over by Virginia based televangelist Jerry Falwell. Her husband was charged with 24 fraud and conspiracy counts and was sentenced to 45 years in jail. Although she stood by him when they were in trouble, in 1992, she filed for divorce. In 1993, she married Roe Messner.

Tammy Faye also starred in the reality show The Surreal Life, where she lived with Ron Jeremy, Vanilla Ice, Traci Bingham, Erik Estrada, Trishelle Cannatella and lived in the same house in Los Angeles and were supposed to do various activities and she came into the public eye once again through several books, television shows and movies.

Tammy Faye wrote her autobiography Tammy:Telling It My Way, in 1996, along with The Jim J. and Tammy Faye Show. A documentary called The Eyes of Tammy was also made on her. She also appeared in the Drew Carey Show.

Tammy Faye was first diagnosed with colon cancer in 1996, and battled with the disease for 11 years. In 2004, she announced on the Larry King Show about her disease. Though the disease had subsided for some time, in 2006, she said that she had reached stage 4 and her health deteriorated gradually. In 2007, she said that all treatments had stopped and urged her fans to pray for her. On July 20, 2007, she succumbed to her disease and died at her home. Tammy Faye Messner
