Oshkosh crash took place on the 27th July in the year of 2007. The crash took place when two war birds had a collision on the south end of the north-south runway of the Wittman Regional Airport. The incident took place on a Friday and killed one person. It called for an immediate emergency in the airport authorities which took necessary measures so that panic can be avoided.
The witnesses that saw the Oshkosh crash while standing on the Air venture ground said that they had seen two P-51 Mustangs coming towards the south end of the Wittman Regional Airports Runway18/36. It looked like a formation landing to them just then the propeller of one of the P-51 Mustang got entangled with the tail of the other Mustang and landed on its nose.
One of the aircraft involved in the Oshkosh crash tried its best to avoid the colliding with the already crashed aircraft but turned over while trying to do so. One aircraft was covered with a tarp and appeared to be upside down in the east of the runway. The other plane came to a halt with its nose on the ground around 100 feet north of the other plane.
The witnesses of the Oshkosh crash did not believe that they had seen a tragic accident on the runway until the emergency staff came to the accident spot to cover the aircraft with a tarp. Barry Morris from Georgia reacted to the crash by saying that it was a tragic incident as the metals of an aircraft can be replaced but nothing can bring back the dead.
One of the aircraft in the Oshkosh crash which had landed on its nose saw its poilto walking away from the crash as seen by the witnesses. The crash was investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration. The Air venture show which was to be held in the afternoon was cancelled as announced by the EAA spokesperson Dick Knapinski.
