Thomas Ravenel Republican Politician

Thomas Ravenel was born in the year 1962. He had been a State Treasurer and is currently involved as a politician representing South Carolina. He is the son of Arthur Ravenel, Jr. who was positioned as the South Carolina Congressman. He laid the foundation of the Ravenel Development Corporation, which is a real estate company operating on a commercial level.

In the year 2004, Thomas Ravenel opted to the position of the U.S. Senate, which was empty as a result of the retirement of Fritz Hollings. He stood at the third place in the primary election of the Republican. After getting the endorsement from Ravenel, the Republican namely Jim DeMint went ahead to take part in the runoff as well as the general elections.

Thomas Ravenel had to pay a sum of $19,000 in the form of penalty as charged by the Federal Election Commission for not following the proper procedure of filling the essential forms before the elections. He contested for the place of South Carolina Treasurer in the 2006 general election and got success over Grady Patterson, who was the 8-term state treasurer Democrat.

Thomas Ravenel completed his graduation from The Citadel that is located in Charleston and landed up with his B.S. in 1985. He further got hold of the M.B.A. degree from the University of South Carolina in the year 1991.

In the June 2007 Thomas Ravenel was charged by US Attorney Reginald Lloyd on the grounds of distributing federal cocaine. The charges filed against him states that he took possession of 500 grams of cocaine by coming in contact with a middle man, who was based in Charleston, South Carolina in 2005.

Thomas Ravenel did this before getting elected to the position of a treasurer and after entering the Senate race that took place in 2004. He was removed from his work of a state treasurer by the Governor namely Mark Sanford on getting the knowledge of the charges on him. The governor further appointed Columbia attorney Ken Wingate to do interim work in place of Ravenel.

As per the information of the prosecutors, Thomas Ravenel resorted to rehabilitation unit. He also did the job of a volunteer for the presidential campaign representing Rudolph Giuliani as the chairman of South Carolina state.
