
Thomas Road Baptist Church can be said to be a mega church that is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. It came into existence in the year 1956 through the efforts of a group consisting of 35 people. Currently it has got 24,000 members.
This organization is behind the discovery of Lynchburg Bible College, which is called as the Liberty University as well as Lynchburg Christian Academy that is now continuing with the official name Liberty Christian Academy since the year 2005. It was till the year 2004, Thomas Road Baptist Church worked as the center for the syndicated religious broadcast of the nation namely Old-Time Gospel Hour.
In recent times this program is serving the local hometown. The sermons, which are chosen from the pulpit belonging to the Thomas Road Baptist Church are aired on the national level on a syndicated program namely Live from Liberty as hosted by the Liberty University.
On the 2nd July, 2006, a new addition was made to the Thomas Road Baptist Church in the form of a multi-million dollar facility. They have been provided with the connection to more than 800,000 square feet facility which had its proprietor as the Ericsson electronics manufacturer.
The building has been reconstructed to include house offices, university classes, Liberty University School of Law, as well as the Liberty Christian Academy. The recent renovations that have been made to the Thomas Road Baptist Church is the building up of a 200,000+ square feet, $20 million facility, which is beside the building that already existed and now it has got a new sanctuary, wedding chapel, and a children's area.
The position of senior pastor was occupied by Jerry Falwell till 2007, who also contributed to the discovery of Thomas Road Baptist Church. On 3rd June 2007, Jonathan Falwell took up his fathers place and continued to fulfill the duties of his father as decided in a special business meeting that was conducted by the board of deacons.
He had been the executive pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church and serving the church since 1994. It used to be affiliated to the Baptist Bible Fellowship International and in recent times has its affiliation with Southern Baptist Convention, which is a Christian denomination based in the United States comprising of a number of agencies along with six seminaries, two mission boards and many other organizations. It made an entry into it through the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia.
Thomas Road Baptist Church
