Jim Quirk Football Administrator NFL

Jim Quirk is a football administrator in the National Football League (NFL) since 1988. He is infor his shoving in between plays on the field as a result of which full time play could not be conducted. People still remember what came to be known as The Instant Replay Game where he got involved in a replay controversy in 1989 NFL season.

In 2007 Jim Quirk completed his twentieth year with the NFL and is an umpire on the officiating team. As an umpire, Quirk was frequently criticized for initiating scuffles among players. During a 1999 NFL game Quirk attempted to instigate a scuffle between Jeff Robinson of St. Louis Rams and Ty Hallock of the Chicago Bears. Quirk pulled Robinson by the waist and pushed him to the ground. Robinson was fined by Quirk for throwing a punch at Hallock.

Jim Quirk conducted many memorable games in his career. In a 1989 NFL season game between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers he got involved in an instant replay decision which later was mocked at as The Instant Replay Game. When Green Bay quarterback Don Majkowski threw a long touchdown pass to wide receiver Sterling Sharpe. The game was heading for a tie at 13-13, and the time left to finish was only thirty-two seconds. Quirk signaled that Majkowski's body had crossed the line of scrimmage and as per rules it was an illegal forward pass. The decision negated the touchdown and turned over the ball to Chicago. The replay official, Bill Parkinson reviewed the play. He ruled out Quirk's decision and favored Packers with the score.

Jim Quirk had his schooling at Long Branch High School in Long Branch, New Jersey. There he used to play football. He graduated in 1963. He served two years as a First Lieutenant at Fort Monroe in Virginia in the Continental Army Command Headquarters Honor Guard Company. During his graduation days at the University of Delaware he was a guard and linebacker. Later he earned a master's degree in personnel administration from George Washington University.

Jim Quirk started as a professional with government securities on Wall Street in 1965. Last thirty-two years, he traveled through out the world and traded with foreign banks. While working in Wall Street he became interested in making a career as football official. Quirk is married to Carol Christopher, his schoolmate and fiancée and the couple have three children.
