Denver, Colorado is a beautiful place to visit and is an ideal tourist destination. Located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains, the city and the county of Denver is the capital and the most densely populated city of Colorado. Elevated exactly one mile (5280 feet or 1609.344 m) above sea level Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City.

According to 2006 census Denver, Colorado has a population of 566,974, and ranks as the 26th most populous city in America. Even the downtown area is the largest in United States. Denver is also known traditionally as the Queen City of the Plains. It got the name with reference to the major role it plays in the agriculture sector along the foothills of the Colorado Front Range. Honoring the city several US Navy ships have got its name as USS Denver.

Denver, Colorado is located on the Great Plains but the climate is influenced by the proximity of the Rocky Mountains on the west. The climate is unique in the sense that it is totally unpredictable. The city has experienced snowfall in May and even beginning September. The average temperature in Denver is 50.1 °F.

During spring the weather in Denver, Colorado changes significantly as Arctic air from the north joins Pacific storm and sometimes bring snow to the city. March incidentally is the coldest month in Denver. The monsoon starts mid-July and carries tropical moisture into the city. It even brings frequent afternoon thunderstorm along with it. Humidity level however remains normally low.

The city of Denver, Colorado was found in November 1858. It was established as a mining town during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush in western Kansas Territory. It was created as settlements by the fortune hunters who flocked in groups from Lawrence, Kansas. They established Montana City on the banks of the South Platte River which was supposedly the first settlement that later came to be known as the city of Denver.

The Montana City site is now Grant-Frontier Park, a museum displaying mining equipments and a replica of a log cabin. Denver Colorado City historically existed as a frontier town whose economy thrived on gambling, saloons, livestock rendering and goods trading. In 1858, General William Larimer who was a land speculator from eastern Kansas along with associates in the St. Charles City Land Company, sold parcels in the town to merchants and miners.
