True Blood Horror Television Series

True Blood is a television series originally produced in America in the year 2007. This series has been based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series of books, originally written by Charlaine Harris. The television series has been adapted from this series by Alan Ball and Bill Buckner. The HBO (Hollywood Box Office) channel has recently selected this series to be aired.

The cast of True Blood includes a number of well-known faces. In the lead role is Anna Paquin – the actress who made her debut in the Hollywood blockbuster X-Men as the mutant named Rogue. In that movie, her role is that of a semi-succubine or semi-vampiric girl who can drain other peoples life forces just by touching them. It seems ironical that she should star in this series in the lead role alongside a vampire!

Stephen Moyer plays the lead role as a vampire alongside Paquin. Other members of the cast include Ryan Kwanten, Robert Amjarv, Sam Trammell, Danielle Sapia and Graham Shiels. The main roles, needless to say, are assigned to Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. Before True Blood, Stephen Moyer had appeared in numerous big screen and small screen productions such as Quills, Midsummer Murders and Lord of Misrule.

Only three episodes of the first season have been produced so far. The titles of the episodes are respectively Pilot, The First Taste and Mine. The series easily falls into the genre of fantasy, even though it also fits into the genre of drama owing to the richness of its production. Considering the presence of vampires in the plot, True Blood might also find a niche in the genre of horror, even though the structure of the plot does not allow much scope for that to happen.

The plot of True Blood has a simple beginning. It has nearly been two years since vampires left their coffins and rose to be among ordinary human beings, that too on national television. Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin, encounters one such vampire. Sookie herself is a barmaid by profession, but with an extraordinary talent – she is able to read the minds of other people. Living in Louisiana, her encounter with the vampire named Bill causes her life to be overturned.

The rest of the series is traced along the course followed by Sookie. True Blood has demonstrated the prowess of Alan Ball in producing ingeniously devised adaptations of series of books into television series that often tend to surpass the books popularity. True Blood
