The economy of the region is booming with more than half of the Gross National Product coming from the tourism Indusntry. In the earlier times oil processing was a major source of income for the nation. Agriculatural and the manufacturing sector have a minimal contribution to the economy of the region.
Aruba celebrates many festivals and people enjoy several holidays. The Carnival festivala nd Madi Gras is celebrated for weeks in the region. These celebrations usually start from the beginning of January till the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday with a large parade on the last Sunday of the festivities (Sunday before Ash Wednesday). Dia di San Juan, with the song of Dera Gai is celebrated in the month of June by many inhabitants of the region. Other two popular holidays of the region are Ascension and Good Friday.
Christmas and New Year are celebrated in Aruba with the typical music and songs of gaitas for Christmas and the Dande for New Year, and the ayaca, the ponchi crema and ham, and other typical foods and drinks. Millions of dollars worth of fireworks are burnt at midnight on New Year's. Other celebrations of the region are Christmas and New Year.
Reaching Aruba is quite easy as Aruba's Queen Beatrix International Airport is located near Oranjestad. The region is well connected to many cities across United States, to San Juan, Puerto Rico; Miami, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; New York, and Boston, Massachusetts. There are daily flights to other international airports that include Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Spain, England and most of Europe through the Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands.
