Winston Salem Journal North Carolina Newspaper


The Winston Salem Journal is a daily broadsheet newspaper owned by Media General. It was established in 1897. The paper is published by Michael Miller. It gives the coverage of the Winston Salem City, North Carolina and its countryside too such as Forsyth Country, North Carolina.

Winston Salem Journal even covers the area of Northwestern North Carolina. The headquarters of the paper is at 418N, Marshall St. Winston Salem, North Carolina, United States. The papers circulation on a daily basis is of about 85,000. The Sundays circulation is more than 85,000 it is approximately around 95,000.

Winston Salem Journals distribution area covers the Forsyth Country, the country seat of the city of Winston Salem. The papers distribution is not just restricted to these places but it is distributed in other areas too such as Alleghany County, Ashe County, Davidson County, Davie County, Stokes County, Surry County, Wilkes County, Watauga County, and Yadkin County.

Winston Salem Journal even comes out with a weekly supplement devoted totally to weekly entertainment and social aspects. This tabloid is named as Relish. In the matters of its editorial column the paper is very moderate. The papers readership is very conservative and this further points out the liberal bias of the paper. The paper has not featured any democratic partys candidate, since 1964 after the Lyndon Johnson.

Winston Salem Journal is totally against featuring or giving publicity to the presidential candidates. For quite long years the paper was owned by Twin City Sentinel but the paper was merged on a later date. The merger took place in the 1980s. WGHP of High Points is the television partner of the paper.

The primary radio and television station in the city are owned by the Winston Salem Journal. Even the AM broadcast radio station, WSJS that is stationed in Winston Salem takes it call letters from Winston Salem Journal Sentinel. But in 2007 August the paper announced that it will shut its daily business and will remove around five ranks from its organization out of which two ranks belonged to the Newsroom.

Winston Salem Journal has won a Pulitzer Prize in 1971 —Meritorious public service, staff; for coverage of environmental problems, as exemplified by a successful campaign to block strip mining operation that would have caused irreparable damage to the hill country of northwest North Carolina.
