The Emerald Bowl is a bowl game of football played by the San Francisco college football teams. NCAA certified this bowl game. From the year 2002, this game has been played at the AT& T Park, which has a seating capacity of about forty thousand and eight hundred seats. The AT & T Park is located at San Francisco in California and is the place from where the San Francisco Giants play every year. The emerald bowl is a post-season football game.

Earlier, the Emerald Bowl was also known as the San Francisco Bowl. The food giant, Diamond of California has sponsored its title, thus giving the game the official title of Diamond Walnut San Francisco Bowl, from the years 2003 to 2004. The most important snack brand of the company is Emerald of California. This company is currently named the Diamond Foods Inc. This company is the title sponsor for the Emerald Bowl, over the years to the present.

The Emerald Bowl had a record setting performance incident in the year 2004. The Navy team was leading with a 31-19 margin in the third quarter of the game. They were successful in forcing the New Mexico team in a three out game situation. This ended up in a goal-line stand situation. The Midshipmen took over the offensive side of the game. Then they implemented a drive plan that included twenty-six plays, ninety-four yards, fourteen minutes and twenty six seconds of the game timings. This plan extended well into the fourth quarter as well.

This drive of the Emerald bowl team was highly praised by the NCAA and it was declared to be a drive of historic magnitude, as it set up new records for the number of games that can be played in a drive and the time limit for possessing in a drive.

The Insight bowl has been shifted from the Chase Field to the Sun Devil Stadium. The Emerald bowl game is being played in a stadium that is used for professional baseball play. Thus, it has become the one game of NCAA division I bowl game to be played that way. At the Dolphin Stadium and Rogers Center where bowl games are also held, both football and baseball bowl games can be played.

The recent track record of the Emerald Bowl is chronicled as follows. On the 28th of December of 2007, Maryland was scheduled to play against the Oregon state. On the 27th of December 2006, the Florida state won with 44 points against UCLA that lost with 27 points. On the 29th of December 2005, Utah won with 38 points and Georgia Tech lost with 10 points.
