Ricky Nelson Rock Musician

The rock musician of the 50s Ricky Nelson was born on May 8, 1940 in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was the son of Ozzie Nelson and Harriet Hilliard, the big bands leader and the singer of the band respectively. David Nelson was his elder brother. His early name was Eric Hilliard Nelson.

Ricky Nelson created few of the finest pop/rock recordings. He achieved unexpected success during first five years of his recording career. During this period he constructed pop-rockabilly hybrids along with leading session player. He also projected an archetype of the sensitive reticent young adult with his vocals.

In 1941, Ricky Nelson worked for Hollywood. From 1944 to 1954, he with his family formed the cast for The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet on the radio and then again from 1952 to 1966 they starred on television. However, in beginning the role of the two brothers was played by young actors but after 1949, they themselves appeared on the show in an episode called Invitation To Dinner.

Ricky Nelson was an asthma patient in his childhood. He studied in Bancraft Junior High. He then joined Hollywood High School, in 1954. He used to earn around $100, 00 per year from the television show. In 1956, he contributed for rock and roll music, the antithesis of Ozzies smooth big band sound.

However, it is said that Ricky Nelson began his career in recording accidentally. He first sang to impress his girlfriend, named Arlene. He sang for the first time at Knotts Berry Farm with the help of his father. Then, he was found in Im Walking of Fat Domino. This song made him popular.

Eventually Ricky Nelson worked for two more songs, A Teenagers Romance and You Are My One and Only Love. Initially the song were found on radio but later on 10th April, 1957, Im Walking was forecasted on television show followed by A Teenagers Romance.

Next, Ricky Nelson signed a contract of five years with Lew Chudd of Imperial and guaranteed $ fifty thousand against royalties. In 1957, Be Bop Baby and Have I Told You That I Love You were recorded, which were forecasted on Television after a week.
After the dissatisfaction from the session musician RN formed his own bands of young players. While forming his band, he worked for the second Imperial single and recorded single, Stood Up and Waitin In School. Along with his new band, Ricky Nelson recorded, Believe What You Say.

By this time Ricky Nelson achieved success outside the TV show. Later in 1959, he performed in movie, Rio Bravo of John Wayne and in The Wackiest Ship In The Navy in 1960. The Poor Little Fool brought him to the top position in the chart. He got a creative freedom in songs like, Never Be Anyone Else But You, Its Late, Just A Little Too Much, and Sweeter Than You.

In 1962 after the expiring of the contract with Imperial, Ricky Nelson signed a contract with Decca of $1 million spread for twenty years. However, later he failed to have any hit songs. In 1972, his song, Garden Party brought him to top forty.

By 1970s Ricky Nelson failed in both personal and professional life. His wife with his children went away from him. He got addicted to drugs, like marijuana. Later after attaining succession in Nostalgia rock tour of England in 1985, he began a tour to south. There he met with a plane crash in De Kalb, Texas, which brought his life to an end.
