Barron Hilton Business Tycoon


William Barron Hilton I is a hotelier and business tycoon. He is the co-chairman of the chain of Hilton Hotels and is also the owner of the football team, the San Diego Chargers. Currently Hilton ranks among the four hundred richest Americans and according to the Forbes 400 list of 2007 his wealth is estimated at $2.3 billion.

William Barron Hilton I was born on October 23, 1927 in Dallas in the American state of Texas. He was the second son of Conrad Nicholson Hilton and Mary Adelaide Barron. His father founded the Hilton Hotels which he would later go on to inherit and develop into a world famous chain of luxury hotels.

Barron Hilton took over the task of organizing and running businesses in Los Angeles from his father and which he continued to do for several years. Barron also had membership of the board of directors of the Statler Hotels Delaware Corporation and of the Conrad N Hilton Foundation. He continued to work in the familys hotel business, expanding and making it into a global brand.

In 1954, Barron Hilton became the Vice President of Hilton Hotels Corporation of which his father was the President. Soon after, he became the president of the Carte Blanche credit card firm and then the owner of an orange juice company which was pegged at $6,000,000. Next he became the head of the business which leased out jets and then invested in a Texas oil company.

Barron Hilton founded the Los Angeles Chargers football team in 1960 which then joined the newly formed American Football League. The team was shifted To San Diego for the 1961 season and was eventually renamed San Diego Chargers. The team played in the first two matches of the American Football League Championships but lost both to Houston Oilers.

In 1979, after the death of Barrons father, it was revealed that he had left the majority of his assets to the Roman Catholic Church and other charities. Barron Hilton fought for the will and on the basis of his lifelong work in the Hilton Hotels Corporation, won his lawsuit in 1988. However, on Christmas Day, 2007, Barron announced that he will be diverting around 97% of his $2.3 billion fortune to charity. The announcement raised speculation that Barron was unhappy with his heirs and particularly disappointed with the lifestyle of his granddaughter Paris Hilton. Barron Hilton
