Kennedy Center Honors Performing Arts

Kennedy Center Honors is conferred annually to the specific talents in the field of Performing Arts. The event is held annually in United States and chiefly focuses on the society and cultural life. Masterminded by George Stevens Jr. and his partner the late Nick Vanoff, the award is given out since the first annual event was held way back in 1978.

The Kennedy Center Honors are given out each year in a gala event that is held annually in Washington DC. The honors are conferred each year through events that are carried through out a week and a number of splendid performances. The honorable dignitaries present on the occasion and the guests honored are given out the honors at the annual events held at Kennedy Center Opera House.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is the venue of the annual event. Kennedy Center Honors are given out annually at this prime venue of the gala event annually. It is like an amphitheater by the Performing arts Center by the Potomac River. The place is geographically well placed and lies in adjacent to the Watergate Complex in Washington D.C. and it was set up way back in 1971.

The Kennedy Center Honors are given out annually by the Centers National Artists and past honorees of the yesteryears. The annual gala event takes place and past honorees like Carol Burnett and Bill Cosby grace the occasion. The honors are given out annually in recognition of lifetime contributions to the American society and culture with performing Arts as their chosen field.

Kennedy Center Honors are given out to those nominated by a Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. The honors are out for lifelong contributions to artistes of the performing arts. The performing arts can be from any chosen field, like- Music, Dance, Theater, Opera, Television and Broadcasting and from the world of Motion Pictures.

The Kennedy Center Honors are given out on different occasions. There are six instances where five-person list had to be expanded on the selection of the creative or artistic team and sometimes a couple got selected. Such instances were evident when Nicholas Brothers and Comden and Green got selected and the list was brought down by seven.

Of all those who have been conferred the Kennedy Center Honors, there are 69 Kennedy Honorees still living in 2007. After the annual announcements are made the annual ceremony is held in early December. The gala event is also broadcast on television any day between the holy occasion of Christmas and New Year.
