The Archie comics character Veronica Lodge was authored partly on the real life character of Veronica Lake. She was already a rising star in 1942 when the comic strip was first introduced.
In 1997 the movie L.A. Confidential paid tribute to the iconic image of Veronica Lake by portraying Kim Basinger in the same manner and style as Lake. The film won the prestigious Academy Award the same year. The movie also mentioned and projected her photographs in the film and also included a scene from her movie This Gun for Hire as a backdrop.

Veronica Lake was born as Constance Frances Marie Ockelman. Her father died young in an industrial explosion in 1932. She was only 9 years old. Her mother married a common friend. Anthony Keane the next year. Veronica started using his surname. She changed schools quite frequently and had a troubled childhood. It has been said that once in adolescence she was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
However, Veronica Lake in later life she showed some signs of the past ailment in the sense that her success was short lived and she went through a series of broken marriages. In her later days she had to struggle with mental illness and became alcoholic.
